St. Bridget’s Love Stories

We asked our followers on Facebook to share with us their love stories from St. Bridget’s. Thank you to everyone that shared!

Nan O’Neil and Kevin Nerad married 08-14-1981 at St. Bridget’s Church, “Father Benda did a good job, we’re still married.”

From Julie O’Neil-King – I’ve spent more years living outside of Iowa than I did as a resident, but St. Bridget’s church will always be a sign of “home” and “love” for me, as well as a central part of my lifelong faith journey. This is where many of my siblings and I received our Sacraments, was the location for weddings, as well as funerals where we were surrounded with love in our sorrow.
I was living in Wyoming when we announced our engagement in 1984, but knew I wanted our wedding to be at the Nolan Settlement. Our daughter was born in Colorado in 1993 and we chose to have her baptized at St. Bridget’s which was extra special to share that day with my sister Laurie and her family as their baby girl was baptized at the same time. The babies were born less than a month apart and Emily Rose and Jessica Rose both shared their grandmother Rose Marie’s name!
I’ve included pictures of my baptismal day with godparents Bridie Whelan and Jim O’Neill, wedding day picture with my handsome groom, George, and Grandpa Leo O’Neil with his two freshly baptized granddaughters.

George and Jeanne Hein were married at St Bridget’s on July 13, 1968 by Father McCoy. St Bridget’s holds many memories for me. My grandparents (Frank and Mary Maher Kessler), my parents (Harry and Margaret Kessler Dodds) and my granddaughter (Nick and Jenna Mott Niemann) were all married at St Bridget’s.

Marsha Edgar married Andy O’Neill on Aug. 4, 1973. Their children Sean & Amanda were baptized here. Amanda O’Neill married James Jorgensen on June 4, 2011 at St. Bridget’s as well. Andy & Marsha will celebrate their 52nd wedding anniversary this year and continue to be active volunteers at St. Bridget’s.

Jenna & Nick Niemann – My husband and I chose to get married at St. Bridget’s for its beauty and the many generations of family whom have tied the knot there, running all the way to my great-great-grandparents. We fell in love with the countryside church and the intimate setting. I highly recommend booking your wedding here as it is one of kind and I can assure you there are no other places like it!

Mike & Margaret Gade married November 28, 1970 at St. Bridget’s Church.

Mary(Donohoe) and the late John Gordon were married at St Bridget’s on a very cold and icy day on February 12, 1971. Despite the weather the church was full to help celebrate a union that lasted over 50 years!
